Let me start off by saying that I can't sew. I envy people that can. One day, I will take a class and learn. Whew, got that off my chest, y'all!
So, when I purchased a yard sale Chifferobe for Norah's room, I knew that I would have to pick out some fabric to make a curtain because the original mirror was missing out of the door. My amazing neighbor helped me make a curtain!!! She is awesome! It might not have been a big deal for her, but it helped me finish up this piece for my girl's room. The knobs were replaced. They are from Walmart. They were in a 2 pack of knobs. They are clear, pink glass looking knobs. I originally had knobs from Hobby Lobby, but the screws that were connected to the knobs were too long. They would have had to be cut. (watch out for those knobs next time you purchase them at Hobby Lobby) And, for $5 per knob, they were not a good enough deal. The ones are Walmart looked very similar and were $6.47 for a 2 pack. Score!
Her Edgar Degas room is coming together nicely. Her curtains are up….see picture below. My hubby and I painted a bookshelf (today) I got off of our local online yard sale. I bought it for $15. I had a quart of light gray paint that I got for free last summer. (at ACE hardware). I could pick any color in the store. Sweet! I knew that I would use it at some point. With the gray curtain, it was a perfect color to choose for her bookshelf.
When I was younger, I prayed that one day I would have a little girl and her bedroom would be an Edgar Degas inspired nursery. I purchased a Degas artwork poster board in the museum in New York. I have never framed it, but have cherished it through many moves to different homes and states since I purchased it at the age of 14. Now, at 30, I will be able to pull it out of that tube and frame it to go over her crib/ bed. (I honestly can't remember which print I purchased that day! ha!)
Now, let me just share with y'all. My Edgar Degas nursery is
no where to be found on Pinterest. I will be adding it to Pinterest when I finish my nursery. :) I am pretty pumped about sharing it too.
I love to use inspiration from my childhood to decorate my children's rooms. My son's room is designed in a specific Mississippi artist theme. I grew up on the Gulf Coast and was surrounded by Walter Anderson and Peter Anderson artwork. I knew if I ever had a boy, his room would be in Walter Anderson artwork. I will have to post photos of his room another time.
Because I was a dancer for 10 years, it is only fitting to have a ballerina style nursery. However, the "ballerina" theme can be overdone and look to cutie pie. I wanted classy and elegant for my Norah Kate. I think this room can change and still keep the Edgar Degas theme. It is not baby, but just girly.
If we ever have another child, I will not be finding out the gender and will enjoy decorating a gender neutral room. However, I am VERY excited that I was able to live out my younger dreams of my designs for my kids' rooms. I LOVE designing and dreaming up outside the box designs. More photos to come as I finish up this room. 31 weeks tomorrow! YIPPEE!
BEFORE AND AFTER BOOKCASE. YOU CANNOT TELL THE BIG DIFFERENCE IN THE PAINT COLOR, BUT IT NEEDED TO BE FRESHENED UP AND NEW. THE ORIGINAL COLOR WAS WHITE, BUT NOT PAINTED VERY WELL. THE GRAY IS CLEAN AND READY FOR HER PINK AND GRAY THEMED ROOM.
